Conwell Savage was a lifelong naturalist, artist and architect who contributed to the design of more than 30 churches and schools in the Philadelphia area. Some of his fine art paintings and sculptures were exhibited in museums including the Metropolitan and the Whitney in New York.
According to the Main Line Times, he worked for an elevator company during World War II, designing elevator control systems and "innovative weapons systems for the Armed Forces." His niece, Chris Bingham, said that he always enjoyed sketching trees. This particular collection is of the trees adorning his retirement town of Narberth, Pa.
Conwell died Feb. 18, 1996, at the age of 88.
Chris contributed one of her uncle's Narberth collections to the
Arborteum at Coffeedrome in appreciation of Julie's passion for trees.
