  Decomposition

The leaves change colour,
darken, and become brittle,
as death comes slowly.

But still they do not fall,

clinging lifeless to a source
no longer in need of their magic
of photons, water and sweetness.

It’s all they have to offer.

Until a pagan whirling gust
tears them from their nature.
Turmoil death confusion chaos

Pain. Decay. Disintegration.

The hydrocarbons that remain
have no need of the tree. That’s good.
A leaf isn’t always just a leaf.

There is power in breaking down.
