3/4 cup egg whites
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon vinegar.
Beat everything together for 40 minutes (yes, 40 minutes).
In an oven preheated to 275 degrees, bake in a springform cake pan for one hour.
After the schaumtorte has cooled, remove the cake pan. The crusty top of the torte can be lifted off and placed to the side. Cover the soft moist interior with fresh strawberries and whipped cream (or a lemon filling, or blueberries or ice cream or banana cream, whatever you like best), then replace the top, cut and serve.
